Target Free Credit Monitoring, Even if you haven’t noticed any suspicious activity on your accounts, Virginia Attorney General Mark R. Herring urges residents who have shopped with Target, in the store or online, to take advantage of free credit monitoring being offered by the retailer.
In the wake of a December breach of its security system, Target is offering one year of free credit monitoring through Experian’s ProtectMyID for all of its customers, regardless whether the customer’s data was breached.
Customers can register at creditmonitoring.target.com or call 866-852-8680. The deadline to sign up is April 23. For more information on the program, visit target.com/databreach or call 866-852-8680. Registrants will receive an activation code to provide to Experian at 888-270-0056.
“I commend Target for offering credit monitoring to all of its customers, and strongly encourage any affected Virginia customers to take advantage of the monitoring, regardless of whether suspicious activity has appeared on their accounts,” Herring said in a press release issued Friday. “Consumers should also be vigilant and change their PIN numbers and passwords if they have not already done so. My office is going to work to help ensure Virginians are protected in this matter.”
Target has 57 retail stores in Virginia, including one in Christiansburg. The retailer says hackers accessed credit and debit card data; customer names, phone numbers, mail and email addresses, and PIN numbers of about 70 million of its customers.
