Bowman Injury, San Francisco 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman has the sympathy of everyone who saw his horrific injury in a loss to Seattle in Sunday's NFC championship game.
He will also have compassion from those who will eventually hear about it, and it will go down as one of the most unfortunately notable injuries in NFL history.
The Seattle Seahawks faced third-and-10 in the fourth quarter when quarterback Russell Wilson threw a short pass to Jermaine Kearse. Bowman stripped Kearse, but the receiver was pushed into Bowman's left leg by safety Eric Reid. Unfortunately, for Bowman, his leg continued to bend the wrong way, and it became apparent the linebacker had sustained a horrendous injury.
To make matters worse, Bowman clearly recovered the fumble, but officials ruled otherwise. Seattle did recover, mostly because Bowman was lying on the ground in pain and the ball was wrestled out of his hands, but it should have been San Francisco’s possession.
Fortunately for the officials, who would have been ripped for that call, on the next play Wilson gave running back Marshawn Lynch a bad handoff, which resulted in a fumble and a 49ers recovery on fourth-and-1.
After his injury, Bowman was carted off to the locker room. Hopefully for the 49ers' spectacular linebacker, his injury was not as bad as it looked.
